Former OVERKILL Drummer To Be Interviewed On WRAT 95.9 FM
August 3, 2007An interview with filmmaker Rat Skates (ex-OVERKILL drummer) will air this Sunday, August 5 on "The Electric Ballroom" program at 10:00 p.m. EDT on WRAT 95.9 FM in New Jersey. Fans outside of NJ can listen to the interview via www.wrat.com, by clicking "Listen Live." Hosted by veteran air personalities Keith Roth and Aimee Kristi, the half-hour interview includes an exclusive "old-school" discussion centered around Skates' new film "Born in The Basement".
"Talking with Keith and Aimee was awesome, especially since they were a part of the same era that I grew up in," says Skates. "It was a real homecoming sort of vibe between us, like an educational, behind-the-scenes BS session with lots of enthusiasm and lots of laughs. We got into things like Rock n Roll Heaven and METALLICA's early adventures with the Old Bridge Militia, the NY/NJ club scene, the morphing of the punk attitude vs. metal, and the camaraderie we all shared in the early '80s."
"Born In The Basement" has been receiving noteworthy acclaim for its candidness: an open, honest, internal assessment of an overlooked time period that began the most significant pivotal point in metal. Recently, the movie was privately screened by some well-known musicians and insiders in the industry: Scott Ian (ANTHRAX) said, "This looks deep into the scene we came up in, and should be required viewing for anyone starting a career in music," while Jay Jay French (TWISTED SISTER) agrees: "This exposes the deep inner-workings of a musician's vision and dedication, and the dirty little secrets of success in this business for any band, from any genre." Fellow thrash pioneers Gary Holt (EXODUS) and Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX) both "relived their past…very entertaining and 100% old-school." In the re-surfacing of his un-inhibited style, David Ellefson (ex-MEGADETH) said, "Rat is a great MC for our community, this is a really ballsy retrospect."
